Sign into police custody in Central Jakarta is not an easy job. You must submit the bag and all the baggage will be checked.
In particular, the officer will look for a cell phone or recording equipment.
Once inside, I saw a number of men-most people Indonesia- sitting on a mat on the floor, to meet their family and friends.
Most inmates are people suspected of white-collar crime, business fraud, or other fraud cases.
Two of them, Neil Bantleman and Ferdi Tjiong, respectively Canadians and citizens of Indonesia, accused of a crime most revolting, which they claim they never did.
I met Neil and Ferdi in police custody, only a few days after their detention period extended. Initially they were arrested on suspicion of involvement in sexual harassment at the Jakarta International School (JIS) on 14 July.
Neil and Ferdi said they were framed.
"Initially I and Ferdi called in the capacity as a witness," said Neil.
"Then the police to change the status and establishes us as a suspect and we were arrested. I guess this is the plan they [the police] since the beginning.
"None of the questions posed to us like a question to the witness. They asked, if we perform sexual abuse against children? What kind of questions put to the witness's worth?" Neil said.
"I am ashamed," said Ferdi Thiong to me.
"As an Indonesian citizen I am ashamed by the laws of Indonesia. It's been a long time I heard that Indonesian law is chaotic. But only now my own experience and feel that Indonesian law does not respect human rights," said Ferdinand.
Electrify
Cases of sexual abuse by the victim was appallingly Indonesia JIS students.
Residents closely follow the development of the case through the media.
His own case is very complicated, which continues to change in recent months.
It all started in March, when cases of sexual abuse of students appeared in JIS.
A student in kindergarten JIS believed was gang-raped by several janitor.
Parents filed a lawsuit and requested compensation of US $ 12.5 million to JIS.
Then in June the second case arises when parents claim that their children are victims of sexual abuse. The second case is what ensnare Neil and Ferdi, two teachers in JIS.
This case for the first time drag teacher or faculty at the school.
Not long after the victim's mother from the first case also stated that Neil and Ferdi sexually abusing his son.
Developing cases and compensation values rose sharply to US $ 125 million.
But in an interview with the BBC, the mother stated that the money was not his motivation for bringing this case to court.
All he wanted was justice for his son.
"I'm angry," he said in a telephone interview.
"I sued the lawsuit value of US $ 125 million because of my anger. I do not want to get the money because true money can not make up for what happened to my son," he said.
But he also said it was ready to cancel this lawsuit if JIS apologize and pay compensation.
"It's not about money, but I was tired of it," he said.
"I want to look ahead. My son is still traumatized and frightened every time wearing his pants. He also had an infection because of the rape. We are suffering," he said.
Proof Case
Police believe they have sufficient evidence to ensnare Neil and Ferdi, but refused to disclose the evidence in question.
"There is a strong belief that this case is convinced occur and be ready for trial," said Rikwanto, Jakarta police spokesman.
"In Indonesia, if someone is designated as tert
numbers, it means that investigators already had a strong belief that he is guilty or innocent strong suspected, let alone arrested. Stay filing alone, "jelasRikwanto.
Under Indonesian law, a person can be detained without a maximum charged for four months while police conduct investigations and develop cases.
JIS itself confirms that there is no strong evidence.
"
Neil and Ferdinand were never told about the evidence in question, "said Tim Carr, told JIS school.
"Though it is a requirement in law in Indonesia. It is a matter of human rights and we want Indonesia to follow their norms. We want to know the evidence that has been found so that we can respond," said Carr.
This case is also under fire from the diplomatic community.
JIS is established by three foreign embassies in Jakarta, namely the United States, Australia, and England.
In a written statement to the BBC, the British Foreign Office, stated, "We are confident that the JIS and school teachers are cooperative with the police. We were surprised by the extension of the detention of faculty JIS because Indonesian law recognize the presumption of innocence."
Meanwhile the family of Neil and Ferdi is felt more severe cases.
"I am worried about my husband. Indonesia is a democratic country. I would like to see the law enforced with the best," said Tracy, wife of Neil Bantleman.
"Every night I pray with my two children," said Sisca, wife of Ferdinand, while fighting back tears.
"We pray that their father back. We pray that God will grant our prayers. Only God we took a bet," he said.
